This project was originally part of a project initiated by the Saskatchewan Environmental Society to provide a working example of how solar power can be used to charge electric vehicles. ‘Renewable Rides’ was the first of its kind in Canada, bringing five 100% solar-powered electric vehicles to the Saskatoon CarShare Co-operative. The project also explored the application of “virtual net metering” where solar power produced at one location is credited for use at multiple locations. The project brought five solar-powered electric vehicles to the Nutana, City Park, Riversdale, Westmount neighbourhoods in Saskatoon and represented a partnership between the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, the SES Solar Co-operative Ltd., Saskatoon CareShare Co-operative and many others.
